Retrieving SSIS project/packages from SSIS catalog

There are two ways to export a package from SSISDB to SSDT

  • Export as .ispac from SSMS(SQL Server Management Studio) and save in SSDT (SQL Server Data tools)
  • Export as Zip file from SSMS

Export as .ispac from SSMS

Step 1: In SSIS Catalog, tight click on the package that has to be exported and give “Export”


Step 2: Save it as .ispac

It would be saved in location specified.


Step 3:

Open SSDT -> File -> New Project and select Integration Services -> Integration Services Import Project Wizard.


Step 4:

Go through the following wizards:


Select Project deployment file and give path where .ispac file was saved and give next.


Give next and close


Step 5:

Packages will be now imported to SSDT.


Export as Zip file from SSMS

Step 1: In SSIS Catalog, tight click on the package that has to be exported and give “Export”


Step 2: Save it as .zip file

Note: Save as Type should be All files (*.*) and File Name as <File_Name>.zip


It would be saved as below


Unzip and the objects in package will be viewable as below which can then be added to SSDT
